Intel Corp. has denied that is considering the spinoff of its memory chip business, according to a Reuters report.

"We are not currently thinking about those kind of things," Paul Otellini is reported to have said in response to a question from a reporter during a visit to the north Malaysian state of Kedah. "What we are thinking about is simply allowing the memory factory team to work much more tightly aligned with the design team," the report quoted Otellini saying.

Earlier this month analysts began to speculate whether Intel was planning to sell of spin off its NOR flash memory unit. Intel, which is undertaking a review of its businesses, recently entered into a joint venture with Micron Technologies Inc. to make NAND flash memory.
