Dell Inc., the world's largest computer maker, is seeking a location in India to set up a manufacturing plant by the year's end, according to a Press Trust of India Report from New Delhi.

The report, quoting Paul-Henri Ferrand, vice president and general manager, South Asia, Dell Computers, did not disclose the proposed investment in the plant.

Dell now has seven plants and is adding plants in the United States and Eastern Europe as well as India, the report said.

The plant is part of Dell's strategy to become the leading desktop and notebook PC brand in this country, where it is now ranked fourth with sales of $270 million in the last 12 months. Dell employs fewer than 10,000 people in India in call centers in different cities.
