Molex Inc. has developed a bus bar connector (BBC) assembly as a compact solution for the direct mating of two perpendicular power bus bars in power supplies or switching power supplies.

The BBC assembly may be used in a variety of applications including telecommunication equipment (networking hubs, switches and routers), high- and mid-range computing applications (servers, data storage and power supplies) and cellular base stations.

With a rating of up to 320A and a low voltage drop, the BBC assembly offers increased current capability at a 30C temperature rise, which is said to be about 20 percent more than the closest competitor's amperage offering. It is also rated for interruption, which meets true hot-plugging requirements.

The BBC assembly mates with a standard 25.4(W)-by-3.18(T)mm thick bus bar, which is the size of de facto output blades used in typical power supply applications. The isolated parallel contacts free-float to facilitate blind mating with the bus bar tab. In addition, isolated left and right contacts provide an option for power feed and return when used with a laminated bus bar.

The BBC assembly sells for approximately $3.11 each for a minimum annual order quantity of 100,000. Delivery is 20 days.
