Renesas Technology Corp. and Powerchip Semiconductor Corp. have signed a manufacturing agreement and a technology and sales licensing agreement pertaining to Renesas' 4Gbit AG-AND flash memory devices, the companies said Friday (June 2).

The new agreements expand the scope of longstanding business collaboration between the two companies in the area of 1Gbit memory devices. Renesas said the new agreements would provide benefit customers by increasing the number of sources for AND flash memory.

Renesas in February announced a licensing agreement with Powerchip covering the technology and sale of 1Gbit AG-AND flash memory devices. That deal gives Powerchip the right to sell AND flash memory under its own brand name.

Powerchip currently operates two 300mm fabs and is currently moving equipment into a third facility that it acquired from Macronix International Co. Ltd in January.
