TFT LCD module targets portable terminal apps

NEC LCD Technologies Ltd has announced that this month it will begin shipping samples of its new 4.3 inch (10.9cm-diagonal) amorphous-silicon, TFT LCD module, part number NL4827HC19-01B, with wide quarter VGA display technology and resolution of 480 x 272 pixels.

Next-generation portable display terminals such as PDAs, photo viewers and GPS require very advanced functionality to be able to store and reproduce large animation files. Therefore, the demand for large screens with higher resolutions and aspect ratios of 16:9 is rising. NEC LCD Technologies said its new TFT-LCD modulethe first of its kindis designed to meet these demands and be the display device of choice in next-generation portable terminal applications.

Major features of the new product includes a wide screen with 16:9 aspect ratio; high luminance of 350cd/m2 on the liquid crystal panel and in the backlight system; and, a touch panel that is suitable for mobile terminals, and which can lead to reduced development costs and shorter lead times for manufacturers of portable devices.

NEC LCD Technologies said it will continue to commercialize products with better display technologies and higher functionality, including small LCD modules for portable devices that aim to contribute to a user-friendly networked information society.
