Moog FCS, a designer and manufacturer of electro-mechanical and electro-hydraulic flight and vehicle simulation equipment, announced a long-term agreement with CAE, a provider of simulation and modeling technologies, for the delivery of motion and control loading systems for full flight simulator applications. This 5-year agreement includes both hardware and support.

"By collaborating with Moog FCS on the development of the electric motion and control loading system for our simulators and establishing a long-term supply agreement, CAE believes it will be able to offer its customer an alternate solution," said Marc Parent, CAE's group president, simulation products and military training & services. "Simulators with electric motion technology will be more environmentally friendly, easier to install and maintain, and will consume less power. The system also offers improved pilot training capabilities and meets all established safety criteria."

Electric motion base and control loading systems include actuators (legs), a power and motion control cabinet, motion control and motion cueing software and Ethernet/FireWire host interfaces.

The process is said to have began when CAE established a technical specification based on proven hydraulic motion system characteristics and then compared technologies offered by various electro-mechanical systems manufacturers. CAE chose to work with Moog, contributing its knowledge in areas such as safety, noise/vibration, CE compliance, pilot training and maintenance to the solution.

CAE also worked closely with Moog FCS to establish a design for an electric control loading system and is completing tests on the new design.
