Royal Philips Electronics has announced that Cyberhome, a major manufacturer of consumer entertainment electronics, is powering its latest personal media player (PMP) using Philips' new low-power, fully integrated Nexperia mobile multimedia processor, the PNX0190. Consumers using the device will be able to watch TV anytime and anywhere the content is broadcasted, Philips said.

The new device supports Adobe Flash and DVB-T based on Philips PDD2016 and forthcoming PDD3016 micro network interface modules that promise low power, high miniaturization and DVB-T reception in small portable consumer devices. Later this year, the PNX0190 will support a DVB-H solution based on Philips' existing TV-on-mobile solutions to the market.

"Philips developed the PNX0190 to enable customers to design and build portable media solutions which cater to the growing market for multimedia devices [and] exceed consumer expectations in all mediums, from games to movies and mobile TV," said Cor Hovius, sales and marketing director, Business Line Personal Entertainment at Philips. "Our research and innovation in the power management space has resulted in DVB-T now requiring lower levels of power and can be utilized on smaller, portable devices. Consumers can be connected to whatever they want, wherever they are."

Solutions based on the PNX0190 product family come equipped with Wi-Fi IEEE802.11a/g capability. They also have a TV output featureup-scaling to high definition output from the device onto the user's home television screens. The Philips Nexperia mobile multimedia processor PNX0190 is already available for mass production.
