IAR Systems and Texas Instruments Low Power Wireless announced a partnership where IAR will provide the development tools for TI Low Power Wireless' new Zigbee Starter Kit. The partnership is planned to help accelerate the market adoption of Zigbee-based RF solutions.

The recently released CC2430ZDK Zigbee-compliant development kit includes the One-Chip Zigbee solution. The chip features an 80C51 microcontroller core, which is supported by IAR Embedded Workbench for 8051, a C/C++ compiler tool chain for 80C51. A time-limited version of IAR Embedded Workbench for 8051 is included in the Zigbee kit. Because IAR's C compilers support both 8051 MCUs and TI's MSP430 MCU, TI can maintain the Zigbee development platform for both MCU architectures.

IAR will provide a 30 + 30 days time-limited version of its C/C++ compiler and debugger tools with each CC2430ZDK Zigbee development kit. IAR has also adapted its C-SPY debugger to the TI reference platform, assisting development and debugging of the CC2430ZDK from IAR Embedded Workbench.

The Zigbee/IEEE 802.15.4 technology is said to have market potential in application areas such as home automation, consumer electronics, medical-technical devices, industrial applications, and telemetry systems.
