SigmaTel Inc. announced its first TV audio design win with Proton Electrical Industrial Co., a designer, manufacturer and marketer of high-quality, engineered digital TVs, LCD TVs and HDTV products. The new 32-inch TFT LCD Proton television was shown at the Computex trade show in Taiwan last week, and will sell to customers in Taiwan, Japan and Australia.

The SigmaTel SGTV58xx solution provides Proton with BOM savings through its single-chip integration, connectivity that simplifies design and time to market, and the ability to satisfy worldwide audio standards with a single hardware platform. It further allows Proton to use a single audio platform for its full line of televisions. In addition, SGTV58xx can be scaled to multiple TV sizes and applied to multiple geographical markets that require different audio demodulation standards.

"We're excited to be working with Proton as this represents a new market for SigmaTel with significant growth potential. TV listeners will soon hear the same high-quality, 24bit audio already proven with millions of SigmaTel audio codec products," said Sigmatel's chairman and CEO Ron Edgerton. "I'm especially proud of our design team that developed first-pass, functional silicon. It showcases our people and technology base and ability to rapidly penetrate new markets with differentiated products."
