Sullins Electronics Inc. has added pin-compliant solderless press-fit terminations to its edgecard connector family for high-reliability and high-cycle applications.
The press-fit connectors are said to feature rugged black PBT insulators together with phosphor bronze gold-plated (30 microinches) contacts to ensure the durability of signal integrity in high-cycle applications. Available with contact configurations ranging from 5/10 to 60/120, the edgecards feature high-density .100-inch spacing on 0.062-inch daughterboards, and support 0.093-inch to 0.125-inch thick motherboards.
The solderless press-fit edgecards are suitable as backpanel connectors as they eliminate the challenges that often arise when thicker, multi-layer PCBs with a high copper content are subjected to the high temperatures required for conventional or wave soldering. These devices are UL Recognized and RoHS-compliant. They can be used in general industrial, commercial and consumer applications such as security systems and computer peripherals.
Other key specifications include a current rating of 3A per contact pair, and an insertion force of 453.6g max per contact pair. The operating temperature range is -65C to 125C.
Average pricing for the press-fit edgecard connectors ranges from 53 cents to 83 cents per contact pair in production quantities. Delivery is three to four weeks.
