Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) and Tata Elxsi Ltd announced their collaboration on an end-to-end baseband demonstration system for IEEE 802.16e infrastructure products, which aims to assist manufacturers to quickly deploy base station solutions targeting the mobile WiMAX market. This new design is said to combine the hardware and software required for system implementation, including a fully-integrated media access controller.

TI recently announced its own 802.16e infrastructure solution for wireless applications, including software, analog and RF products, to support the mobile WiMAX industry. According to TI, the design will enable physical layer processing required for a 10MHz, TDD, multi-antenna baseband solution with multiple input/multiple output transmission.

The system will incorporate Mercury Computer's MTI-203 advanced mezzanine card (AMC) for WiMAX, anchored with three TI TMS320TCI6482 DSPs and a supporting compute node to create a WiMAX infrastructure base band solution. The AMC card can plug into serial RapidIO-based Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA) carrier cards, as well as MicroTCA and AdvancedTCA chassis that support Serial RapidIO (PICMG 3.5) across the backplane.

The software components, available as a part of this demonstration system, is said to allow OEMs to select and optimize specific pieces of the design in their own implementation, and customize the software and add their own intellectual property.
