Foundry Networks Inc., a provider of enterprise and service provider switching, routing, security and Web traffic management solutions, announced that Right Media, an online advertising management provider, deployed Foundry's 10Gbit Ethernet (10GbE) LAN and application switching solutions.

Right Media is using Foundry Networks' BigIron RX switches for its data center backbone, the FastIron Edge X Series for gigabit server aggregation, and the ServerIron 450 application switches for Web service acceleration and availability.

The 10GbE ServerIron application switch is said to enable the server farm to scale to hundreds or thousands of servers, and provides Right Media with intelligent application load balancing to accelerate service delivery. With integrated global load balancing of Web traffic across multiple data centers, the solution offers location transparency and traffic localization to improve service performance.

According to the press release, the Foundry infrastructure allows Right Media to scale server farm capacity on-demand and incrementally as traffic grows. Additional data centers can be brought online and added to the global service network managed by Foundry's global load balancing. In the event of a data center interruption, Foundry's Global Server Load Balancing disaster recovery feature built into the ServerIron 450 redirects traffic to parallel facilities.

The BigIron RX has a power consumption of 15.8kW while driving 4.62Tbps in a standard Telco rack, or less than 7W per GbE port. This is said to be 40 percent less power usage than competing products from other vendors.
