Tyco Electronics incorporates the latest metal contact and direct socket loading technology into its Land Grid Array (LGA) sockets for desktop and server microprocessors. The RoHs-compliant LGA771 socket J is aimed at Intel Xeon CPUs while the LGA775 socket T is designed for desktop computers.

The LGA771 and LGA775 sockets are said to integrate the latest technologies to ensure consistent performance. In addition to the LGA metal contact and direct socket loading technology which ensures the electrical connector of the Pentium 4 CPU and the Xeon CPU with the PCB, the sockets feature high-temperature thermoplastic housing material, which when combined with the stainless steel load plate, securely retain the microprocessor package for connection in a variety of temperature conditions.

The LGA771 and LGA775 sockets also feature precise contact tip geometry and socket housing ribs to reduce the risk of contact damage and tip over-bending as a result of improper handling or installation. With a single lever handle for actuation and solder ball surface-mount technology for the PCB attachment, the sockets are designed for simple processor installation and PCB integration by the direct socket loading plate.

The pick-and-place cap for automatic processing also serves to further protect the contacts from contamination, allowing for an even longer life of the socket and microprocessor, according to the company.

Pricing ranges from $2.25 to $3.25 each in high volume quantities. Delivery is two to four weeks.
