The A5 series 40A automotive relay from CIT Relay & Switch is available with U.S. and European PC layout styles. The European style is CE certified.

Designed for high in-rush applications, the A5 series relay features excellent vibration and shock resistance as well as high heat resistance for use in high ambient temperature applications such as engine compartments. The A5 relay, which measures 25.8-by-20.5-by-20.8mm, can carry a continuous current of 20A at 125C. This device may also be used in automotive anti-lock braking systems (ABS), power steering, power windows, door locks, wipers, tilt lock wheel, sun roof, emergency vehicle lighting and lamp accessories.

Available with SPST N.O., SPST N.C. or SPDT contact arrangements, the specially formed contacts of the A5 relay are weld resistant. The SPST N.O. arrangement offers contact ratings of 40A at 14Vdc, 20A at 120Vac and 15A at 28Vdc. Both the SPST N.C. and the SPDT arrangements offer 30A at 14Vdc, 20A at 12Vac and 15A at 28Vdc. Other key specifications include a maximum switching power of 360W, a maximum switching voltage of 750Vdc, 380Vac, and a maximum switching current of 40A.

Designed for compact mounting density, the A5 series offers a choice in coil voltage from 6Vdc to 24Vdc. Electrical life at the rated load is typically 100,000 cycles and mechanical life is rated at 10 million cycles. These devices provide an insulation resistance of 100MW minimum at 500Vdc, a coil-to-contact dielectric strength of 750Vrms minimum at sea level and a contact-to-contact dielectric strength of 500Vrms minimum at sea level. The relay is RoHS compliant.

Pricing starts at 84 cents in quantities of 10,000, depending on contact arrangement. Delivery is five to six weeks.
