Sierra Design Automation Inc. announced that Sierra Pinnacle was selected by NEC Electronics as the physical implementation tool of choice after multiple design successes.

According to the press release, Sierra Pinnacle addresses variability issues such as process and manufacturing variations, multiple design modes, and high capacity requirements at 90nm and below. The company also announced that Sierra Pinnacle is being used actively in many of top-20 semiconductor companies to achieve highest performance and fastest design closure.

NEC's EMMA platform is specifically designed for digital AV applications, such as STB, digital TVs, and DVD recorders, to deliver versatile and uncompromised performance through MPEG signal process core technology. From high-end requirements, such as digital HD signal process or parallel processing of multiple streaming signals, to low-end requirements, such as one-chip processor for SD-compatible devices, EMMA enables and empowers your digital AV application.

"Our high end EMMA products are characterized by high clock frequencies, complex functionality, and large design sizes over 10Mgates," said Mr. Masao Hirasawa, general manager, digital audio/visual systems division, NEC. "Sierra Pinnacle seamlessly plugged into our design flow and we were able to achieve 10 percent better performance and up to 2x improvement in productivity vis-a-vis the incumbent flow, and as measured by the number of iterations and time to closure."
