Pericom Semiconductor Corp. introduced a new family of advanced analog switches created for mobile terminal applications which feature Chip Scale Packaging (CSP), very low On-Resistance, and wide voltage ranges to address the demands of next generation portable application requirements.

The new PI5A4xxx IC's are dual high-bandwidth SPDT and SP3T CMOS analog switches housed in ultra-small 2-by-1.5-by-0.6mm CSP packaging. Designed specifically for the mobile market, these small footprint switches are being used for multi-band functions, polyphonic ring tones, hands-free functions, FM radio, MP3/MP4 players, and memo recorder applications.

"The convergence of more features and connectivity into increasingly smaller cell phones and other mobile terminals is driving the demand for analog switches in the smallest available packages. Even with the smallest die, the plastic packaging form factor had been the limiting aspect to offering smaller footprints for PC boards," explained Shaf Rahman, Pericom marketing director.

There are four products under the PI5A4xxx family: the PI5A4684 low-voltage dual SPDT analog switch, 2:1 mux/demux bus switch; the PI5A4765 low-voltage dual SPDT audio click-less analog switch with headphone/mute detection, 2:1 mux/demux bus switch; the PI5A4764 low-voltage dual SPDT audio click-less analog switch, 2:1 mux/demux bus switch (with shunt switches); and, the PI5A4213 low-voltage dual SP3T analog switch, 3:1 mux/demux bus switch.

Other features of the PI5A4xxx family include dual SPDT or dual SP3T configurations, low R-On between 0.5 ohm and 0.95 ohm at 2.7V supply, Vcc range of 1.65V to 5.5V, break-before-make switching, on-chip comparator for mute detection, on-chip shunt switches, high off-isolation of -42dB to -53dB, low cross-talk rejection, extended industrial temperature range -40C to 85C, ultra-small micro-coated CSP (Pb-free and "green") and 10 or 12-ball CSP (2-by-1.5-by-0.6mm).
