PMC-Sierra Inc., a provider of broadband communications and storage semiconductors, announced that Fujitsu Ltd has selected PMC-Sierra's metro transport semiconductor solutions for its Flashwave 7500 reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) and Flashwave 4500 multi-service provisioning platform (MSPP).

The ROADM integrates SONET add/drop multiplexer functionality onto individual Flexponder interface cards using PMC-Sierra's Chess III chipset. The MSPP utilizes the Chess III and Chess Wideband chipset. The wideband chipset is used to achieve VT1.5 grooming, as required by next-generation MSPPs to map data and TDM traffic into SONET/SDH tributaries.

"PMC-Sierra's Chess portfolio offers highly-integrated framers, scalable non-blocking switch fabrics and pointer processors," said Minoru Takeno, general manager of the photonics system group at Fujitsu. "PMC-Sierra's solutions enabled us to meet customers' emerging needs, which are being driven by triple play service deployment."
