Global revenues from flat panel displays based on low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) will likely reach $6 billion this year, disclosed research firm DisplaySearch. Revenue is forecast to register a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20 percent, to reach $12 billion in 2009.
The company also said that LTPS-based flat panel display promises to be one of the fastest growing segments in the display industry. Since 1990, higher performance LCDs with IC functions has put a large amount of interest in LTPS. With revenues reaching over $5.4 billion last year, this industry continues to develop despite issues on manufacturing and production costs.
Additionally, the AMOLED sector has also shown its adoption of LTPS technology, particularly in mobile applications. LTPS is said to be the only practical solution for AMOLED products to have longer life cycles.
