SEAJ raises forecast for Japanese fab tools

The Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan on Thursday (July 6) raised its forecast for Japanese-made semiconductor equipment from 8 percent to 11 percent growth for the year ended March 2007, according to a report from Reuters.

The trade group also said that it now expects sales of Japanese-made flat-panel equipment to grow by 15 percent in the year to March 2007, up from its previous estimate of 10 percent, the report further said. In total, Japanese chip-making equipment is expected to hit $14.53 billion in terms of sales this business year, according to the Reuters report.

For the fiscal year ended March 2008, the growth of Japanese-made equipment is expected to be 12 percent, said to the report.
