Dow-Key unveils compact PCB mount switch

Dow-Key Microwave Corp., part of Dover Corp.'s Microwave Products Group, announced it now offers a compact SPDT PCB mount switch. According to the company, the new 409 series unit, which can be mounted directly on an electronic board, is suited for military, ATE and commercial applications that require higher power handling and greater resistance to severe environmental conditions than those offered by typical PCB mount switches. The device's packaging occupies 310mm² of PCB area to meet high-density mounting requirements.

"Across all industries, we are seeing the miniaturization of components," said Krzysztof Ciezarek, VP of engineering/hi-rel products for Dow-Key. "The new 409 switch addresses this trend while maintaining superior performance capabilities.

A high-quality alternative to solid state devices, the 409 operates at a frequency range of DC—3GHz. The switch is also resistant to high shock and vibration instances that can occur as a result of the harsh conditions associated with various military applications, the company said. Featuring a laser weld hermetic seal, the switch functions optimally in variable climatic conditions. Operating temperatures range from -30°C to 70°C.

Made from aluminum and electroless nickel with kovar gold plated contacts, the switch weighs a maximum of 29g. The 409 switch is available in an SPDT latching design and has a minimum life of one million cycles.
