The Indian market for analog ICs, worth $221 million in 2005, is set to grow 35 percent to nearly $300 million this year, more than half of this being accounted for by the communications industry. Sales of analog ICs are slated to rise another 40 percent to $427 million by 2007, with the rapid growth pace to continue through 2010 when sales reach nearly a billion dollars, according to the India Semiconductor Association (ISA).

Wireless handsets and equipment, VCD and DVD players comprise much of the analog IC market, but with the rising focus on exports, STBs and wireless handsets have high growth potential.

Among analog ICs, power circuits will account for $108 million this year, data converters $100 million, amplifiers $73 million, and interface circuits $18 million. On a unit basis, power circuits will account for half of the 860 million analog ICs to be sold in India this year.
