Synopsys Inc., a major EDA company, and Silicon Integration Initiative, a semiconductor industry consortium, announced that ARM, Infineon Technologies, Sequence Design, Semiconductor Technology Academic Research Center, STMicroelectronics, Sun Microsystems, Synopsys Inc., Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) and Virage Logic are the founding members of the Liberty standard technical advisory board (TAB). For the first two years, STMicroelectronics will serve as the TAB vice-chair. The group said its first meeting will be held during the Design Automation Conference next week in San Francisco, California.

The Liberty TAB, first announced last May, was formed to facilitate the development of the open-source Liberty library format, a library modeling standard. This TAB was created to allow representatives from the design community, EDA companies, silicon foundries and semiconductor intellectual property companies to guide the development of the Liberty standard.

"The rapid move to smaller process geometries will continue to bring immense library modeling challenges," said Mark Saxton, manager-ASIC EDA at TI. "Cooperation between the various areas of the semiconductor design industry is crucial to addressing these challenges. We welcome the opportunity to contribute to the future evolution of the Liberty library standard through this initiative."
