MagnaChip Semiconductor Ltd recently launched the MC2TA7501, a one-chip, high-resolution LCD driver for high-end mobile phones, Digital Media Broadcasting (DMB) and mobile TV phones.

The LCD driver supports high resolution at QVGA level (240 x 320) and is 30 percent smaller than existing MagnaChip QVGA chipsets. The product supports RGB interface from 6bit to 18bit and MPU interface at 68/80 modes, the company said, making it suitable for high-end mobile phones and DMB devices. The LCD chip promises minimum power consumption and offers 260,000 colors.

"As DMB broadcasting services move increasingly into the mainstream, and as mobile phones advance further, there is a growing demand for phones with QVGA LCD," said Davis Mok, VP for small DDI marketing in MagnaChip's Display Solutions Division. "MagnaChip developed this third generation one-chip solution with a dramatic size reduction by integrating two chipsets into one. As QVGA is forecasted to account for 20 percent of the total market next year, this one-chip solution is expected to be a key revenue generator for MagnaChip given its size benefit and cost competitiveness." Mok added that the one-chip LCD solution is MagnaChip's first product with EEPROM memory, providing customers additional flexibility.
