Anticipating heavy demand for mobile video gear during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Kopin Corp. said it will ramp up its Hong Kong subsidiary to meet demand.

Kopin (HK) Ltd is located at Hong Kong's Science and Technology Park. It will provide technical assistance to video eyewear manufacturers in Hong Kong and the mainland as well as serve as an application development center for video eyewear.

"The mobile video market in China will see a big boost in the next two years because mobile TV broadcasting will start before the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games," said Kenny Chow, general manager of Kopin (HK).

"Hong Kong allows us to work closely with our customers in China while creating innovative solutions in a good environment for intellectual property development," John C.C. Fan, Kopin's president and CEO, added in a statement.

"The Photonics Center of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park includes government-sponsored laboratories and many companies with complementary expertise to our display technology," said Fan.

Kopin will develop next-generation mobile video technologies using its Digital iVision technology, which provides big-screen pictures in a small form factor. Emerging technologies from the Hong Kong facility include 3D stereo viewing, integrated MPEG-4 video playback and storage and wireless RF links that would enable cable-free connections between video devices and eyewear products.
