Meeting customer demand for a surface-mount infrared light source with a wider beam angle, TT electronics Optek Technology has expanded its IR SMD product line with the introduction of an 880nm wavelength IR LED that delivers a 100 total beam angle.

The high-power OPR2800 series GaAIAs LEDs are housed in a surface-mount chip carrier (SMCC) package that matches a PLCC-2 footprint. They are suitable for use as single IR LED sources as well as arrays of SMD package IR LEDs. According to the company, the flat lens window of the SMCC package allows for the wide beam angle and use in single device and array applications.

The OPR2800 series offers a forward voltage of 1.5V maximum (If=50mA), a continuous forward current of 50mA, reverse voltage of 30V and a reverse current of 100A (Vr=2V). Power dissipation is 130mW at 25C. The operating temperature range is -40C to 100C. Applications include non-contact position sensing, data detection systems, machine automation and optical encoding. The series is RoHS compliant.

Available in bulk and tape and reel packaging, typical pricing for the OPR2800 infrared LED is 90 cents each in quantities of 100,000. If stock is not available, delivery is four to six weeks.
