Improv Systems is now offering pre-configured versions of its Jazz configurable DSP platform. The cores come in three families: Jazz DSP for general-purpose DSP processing, Jazz Media for multimedia processing, and Jazz Voice for VoIP. The multimedia and VoIP family members come with software modules that incorporate the relevant standards and functions, enabling the cores to be treated as "black box" solutions.

All three families are based on the Jazz processor, a VLIW processor that features overlaid data paths, a distributed register system, and code compression. According to Improv, the Jazz processor offers typical clock rates of 160MHz and power consumption of less than 0.1mW/MHz. It is available with either 16bit or 32bit data paths and can be licensed as a standalone core.

The Jazz Media family targets media processing in consumer devices ranging from cellphones and portable media players, up to high-definition displays. The Jazz Media family includes configurations for mobile media processing (MMP), advanced audio processing (AAP) and broadcast media processing (BMP). Each family member comes with audio and video codecs including H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, AAC and MP3.

The Jazz Voice family includes a VoIP Phone Processor (VPP) for 2-4 voice channels, a IP Videophone Processor (VVP) for integrated video and voice processing, and a IP IAD Processor for integrated access devices up to 32 channels. Each configuration of the Jazz Voice family comes with a voice processing system that includes voice codecs, line echo cancellation, dial-tone management and call control, conferencing support, and caller-ID processing.

The Jazz DSP family is targets for general-purpose signal processing. It comes in four different configurations: the single-MAC Jazz D10, the dual-MAC Jazz D20, the quad-MAC Jazz D40, and the communications-oriented Jazz Telecom.

The pre-configured Jazz DSP, Jazz Media and Jazz Voice cores are available for licensing directly from Improv Systems.
