electronics exports powered the Malaysian economy in 2005 and are expected to grow even faster this year, according to a report released this week by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.
It said exports in 2005 soared 11 percent to reach $145 billion, with electrical and electronics products representing almost half of the total.
It forecast that annual exports from the electronics sector would rise from the current $72 billion to $112 billion by 2010 on the back of higher consumer demand.
Much of this demand is expected to come from Asia Pacific due to the regional "expansion in electronic commerce and the increase in consumer purchasing power," the ministry said.
