Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd, a telecom R&D and support services firm based in India, has bought Finland's Botnia Hightech Oy, a provider of wireless R&D and testing services, in an all-cash deal worth about $45 million.

Botnia, based in Kaustinen, Finland, is a supplier of hardware, software, mechanical design and testing services to mobile handset vendors. Sasken's interest in the deal is that Botnia's services can be applied in R&D projects, sub-projects, tester design, as well as in cost reduction.

Botnia employs 230 people. Its main operations are in Finland where its hardware and mechanical design centers are located. It also has operations in Denmark and Germany.

The buyout is expected to help Sasken boost its presence in Europe and scale up its portfolio of offerings for telecommunications engineering.
