 RadioScape's RS220 DAB module

U.K.-based RadioScape Ltd has announced the first module in a new generation of lower power and lower cost digital audio broadcasting (DAB) modules. The module is essentially a software defined radio (SDR).

RadioScape's RS220 is the first module designed with the company's latest RF IC front-end chip. The front-end chip reduces the module's component count.

The IC also reduces dissipation, halving power compared to RadioScape's predecessor, the RS200VE. That equates to battery life of over 80h from one set of six D cells. The RS220 module is also pin-compatible with the existing RS200 family of modules.

The RS220 supports DAB Band III, and FM as standard. It can also optionally cover L-band DAB.

As with all of RadioScape's DAB modules, its features and functions are defined in software. Additional capabilities such as USB Master, WMA, SD/MMC, CD, MP3, and iPod playback are also available as options.

Samples are already available, with full production expected by Q3. Pricing information will be available soon.
