EDA&T-Taiwan showcases latest in EDA, test

To update engineers on the latest developments in EDA and test, the 14th Annual EDA & Test Taiwan Conference & Exhibition (EDA&T-Taiwan) will gather the world's top vendors on August 17-18 at the Taipei International Convention Center.

With the conference's enhanced program, participants will get the chance to meet with industry experts, and learn new design tools and methodologies. This year's event will feature a keynote address by TSMC's Fu-Chieh Hsu, summits on mobile TV and multicore SoCs, and vendor seminars.

The keynote will allow CEOs of embedded technology companies to share their views with Taiwan's engineering community. The mobile TV and multicore SoC summits will feature speakers who will discuss future industry trends and address technical issues and challenges confronting next-generation embedded systems. The vendor seminars will feature design trends and solutions for embedded systems, telecoms and portable devices with Taiwan's design engineers and technical managers.

Design solutions
Taiwan is at the forefront of development in the electronics industry. This year, Taiwan is forecasted to produce $48 billion worth of ICs, becoming the world's third largest IC supplier. Companies participating at EDA&T-Taiwan will exhibit their latest technologies aimed at solving different design challenges.

High speed and high frequency make EMI/EMC problems more difficult to prevent and solve in system, PCB, package and IC designs. Ansoft Corp. will introduce co-simulation and co-design technologies of a full-wave electromagnetic field solver and circuit tool for EMI/EMC problems. Ansoft's SIwave, a finite-element full-wave electromagnetic PCB design software, is used to analyze resonant models of PCBs or packages. The company's other technologies, HFSS and Q3D, are used to establish an EM library and to conduct "what-if" analysis. By combining HFSS and SIwave to simulate the 3D shielding effect out of a PCB, EMI/EMC problems can be completely solved.

Meanwhile, Zuken will exhibit Cadstar, a Windows-based PCB design solution that can be used for EMC analysis. Cadstar also spans schematic capture, placement, routing, library creation and management, signal integrity, and creation of manufacturing data. Zuken will also present CR-5000, a design suite that provides SiP/PCB/hybrid IC/FPC/wire harness design functionality. CR-5000 is constraints-drivenfrom schematic capture and board layout to the output of manufacturing data. Thus, rules applied early on in the design process are maintained until manufacturing. This results in faster time-to-market.

Analysis, debugging
IC design size and complexity as well as time pressure are factors affecting yield and time-to-market. Maojet Technology Corp., an EDA tools and silicon IP distributor in Taiwan, will present design solutions and products from Carbon Design Systems Inc., Sandwork Design Inc. and Ardence Inc.

Carbon's virtual system prototyping (VSP) solution enables system prototypes to be assembled and functionally validated on an engineer's desktop ahead of time. The VSP is integrated with ESL tools and SystemC. This solution helps software developers easily validate their software in a complete system-level context. Moreover, VSP enables architects and design engineers to conduct early architectural validation, exploration and performance analysis. At a vendor seminar, Carbon and Maojet will show how a typical ESL flow and Carbon's SoC-VSP tool are used together to develop and validate a typical processor-based SoC design.

SpiceCheck is Sandwork's latest product in its analysis, verification and debugging (AVAD) suite. It performs netlist debugging from syntax verification to circuit-aware static checking. Maojet and Sandwork will tackle the gap between debugging and results analysis at an EDA&T-Taiwan vendor seminar.

Last month, Ardence released version 7.0 of RTX, the company's high-performance real-time extension to Microsoft Windows. It will also be showcased at this year's EDA&T-Taiwan. Real-time extensions such as RTX enhance Windows XP and XPe's universally adopted look and feel, with features that give developers better control. Maojet and Ardence will further discuss the use of this extension to Windows XP at a vendor seminar.

Spirox will showcase its IC verification center (ICVC). ICVC provides design debug, reliability, failure analysis, decap/delayer and circuit repair. It will also exhibit Teseda V520, the first engineering test platform designed specifically for scan validation, silicon debug and failure analysis.

AMS, RF kits
Cadence will display its analog/mixed signal (AMS) and RF design methodology kits. The AMS methodology kit addresses design challenges across many of today's competitive markets, including wireless, wired networking and personal entertainment electronics. This kit is based on Cadence's Advanced Custom Design methodology, thus delivering a verified methodology, enabling IP and consulting.

On the other hand, its RF design methodology kit increases silicon predictability and enables greater RF design productivity. Thus, the kit helps shorten product development cycle.

Magma Design Automation Inc. will also showcase a product that aims to reduce design development time. Talus, Magma's IC implementation product line, provides a complete RTL-to-tape-out platform that analyzes and optimizes timing, area, power, signal integrity and yield. It is also designed to lower design costs.

EDA&T-Taiwan is collocated with Embedded System Conference-Taiwan (ESC-Taiwan), which is a part of the Embedded Systems Conference series, the world's largest event for embedded systems developers. EDA&T-Taiwan and ESC-Taiwan are organized yearly by eMedia Asia Ltd, a joint venture of Global Sources and CMP Media LLC.
