Adjustable 7-13V front-end minimizes bus losses

Power-One's FNP1500-12G AC/DC 1500W front-end is widely programmable, from 7V to 13V, and thus users can choose a bus voltage that minimizes their system-specific I2R distribution losses while increasing the efficiency of downstream bricks and point-of-load converters. The output can be programmed from an I2C bus for dynamically optimizing bus voltage in response to changing line and load conditions.

Additional I2C-interface capabilities include enabling the output, controlling internal fan speed, and setting the output current limit. Power supply management is also accomplished via a comprehensive set of logic-level outputs and LED status indicators. This hot-swap supply, working from a universal input (85-264Vac), incorporates the required OR-ing diodes. Three FNP1500-12G front ends can be configured to provide 378A (4,536W) from a 19-inch shelf. Additional features include an auxiliary output that provides 1A at 12V. The supply is protected against output over-voltage, output over-current and over-temperature conditions.

The FNP1500-12G, measuring 1.6-by-5.6-by-11inches, is priced at $263 each in OEM quantities. Evaluation models are usually available from stock. Production quantities are typically available in six to eight weeks.
