IRC makes LED assemblies with Anotherm substrate tech

LED assemblies developed with Anotherm

TT electronics IRC Advanced Film Division offers populated LED assemblies using its Anotherm substrate technology, which can be used in a variety of high-brightness LED display applications including gaming and vending machines, outdoor signage and displays, emergency vehicle lighting, as well as architectural and general lighting.

IRC's Anotherm thermally-conductive aluminum alloy substrate is insulated by a thermally conductive, chemically grown, anodized dielectric layer with solderable screen printed conductors applied to the anodized layer. Said to provide effective thermal management, which is a key requirement in efficient LED operation, the substrate material enables design engineers to mount visible LEDs and other components directly to it. This eliminates the need for attached heat sinks and mounting hardware as well as the associated assembly costs.

The LED assemblies can be developed with up to three layers of circuit on a single Anotherm board. The Anotherm substrates feature an insulation system consisting of a thin layer of anodized aluminum oxide, producing a dielectric layer approximately 0.035nm thick, which provides an inorganic insulation that is not affected by temperature or chemical exposure. This construction gives Anotherm technology the ability to operate in extreme temperatures up to 175C. The maximum operating voltage is 250Vac, and thermal impedance is characterized at 0.02C/W. Anotherm substrates are available RoHS compliant. This Anotherm technology may also be used in automotive applications.

Prototypes of the populated LED assemblies are available in about 6 weeks. Pricing and lead times vary for the custom populated LED assemblies.
