Renesas' tunable antenna varicap diodes

Renesas Technology Corp. has announced two tunable antenna varicap diodes for digital terrestrial broadcast capable portable and mobile terminals: the RKV653KP, touted to be the industry's smallest, and the extended-package RKV653KL. Sample shipments have begun in Japan.

A tunable antenna can change resonance frequencies for effective reception of frequency bands. The new streamlined devices are capable of handling frequencies used in digital terrestrial broadcasting for portable and mobile terminals, such as One-Seg in Japan, thus they ease the integration of an antenna into digital terrestrial broadcast capable mobile phones.

The RKV653KP and RKV653KL meet the specification requirements for embedded varicap diodes and were designed for changing resonance frequency in antenna. The two products can be used in a tunable antenna for leading digital broadcasting such as DVB-H and DMB.

Micro package 6 (MP6) used by the RKV653KP achieves ultra-small dimensions of 0.6mm-by-0.3mm by using an underside electrode structure, while the RKV653KL extended-package model employs a lead pin type extremely small flat lead package (EFP) with dimensions of 1-by-0.6mm, offering a choice of models to suit different systems.

Product pricing is set at 12 cents for RKV653KP and 11 cents for RKV653KL.
