Top semiconductor companies, including Intel, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Wind River and Atmel will display their latest technologies at the 6th Annual Embedded Systems Conference-Taiwan (ESC-Taiwan). Organized by Global Sources and CMP Media, the conference will be held from August 17-18 at the Taipei International Convention Center along with the 14th Annual Electronic Design Automation & Test-Taiwan Conference & Exhibition (EDA&T-Taiwan).

Mark Saunderson, president of Global Sources' electronics business unit, said: "Taiwan's semiconductor industry is expected to generate more than $39 billion in revenue this year. With the local IC fabless sector growing 13 percent year-on-year to $9.8 billion, it is Asia-Pacific's most important IC design industry.ESC-Taiwan and EDA&T-Taiwan provide Taiwan's IC and system designers hands-on experience with the latest technologies from the industry's key innovators. These events enable leading embedded systems suppliers and EDA tool providers to meet Taiwan's design communities under one roof."

Other companies who have committed to participating at ESC-Taiwan and EDA&T-Taiwan next week include Agilent Technologies, Altera, Ansoft, AVANT, Cadence, Cirrus Logic, Magma, Renesas, Spansion, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, United Microelectronics Corp.and Zuken.

Special programs and seminars
A series of programs are scheduled during the two-day event. An Enhanced Conference Program, lead by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), Philips, Altera and Wind River, aims to give Taiwan designers the unique opportunity to learn new technologies direct from some of the world's largest embedded and EDA technology vendors.

Designers can also attend the events' first-ever Summit Program where technology experts will discuss some of the industry's hottest topics, including D signing TV-on-the-gowhich includes presenters from Frontier Silicon, Imagination Technologies, MontaVista Software and Philips Semiconductor and Multi-core SoCs&mdash:with speakers from Altera, ARM, Sunplus Technology, Trolltech ASA and Wind River.

Global Sources expects thousands of design engineers to attend the event. In 2005, 70 percent of ESC-Taiwan and EDA&T-Taiwan attendees were design or development engineers and 15 percent were engineering managers.

"Almost 3,000 designers and technical managers from Taiwan's design community attended last year's event. We expect record numbers to attend this year as Taiwan's engineers look to improve their skill sets and learn about the latest technologies and solutions," Saunderson said.
