Metalink Ltd announced that it is collaborating with Daewoo Electronics to incorporate its WLANPlus chipset into Daewoo's next-generation STB. The new STB, which delivers wireless multiple high-definition video streams based on Metalink's 802.11n-draft compliant chip-set, will be presented for the first time at IFA, the world's largest consumer electronics trade fair to be held in Berlin next month.

According to the press release, the company's WLANPlus chipset family is optimized to address the needs of the consumer electronics market by supporting the most demanding optional specifications of the 802.11n standard critical required to enable high-definition video streaming throughout the home. WLANPlus technology is a key enabler of high-definition video streaming applications in a broad range of products including residential gateways, DTV, HDTV, STBs, media adaptors and digital video recorders, Metalink said.

"We believe that 802.11n-based products will be broadly used to provide multiple high definition video throughout the home, and as a result, selected Metalink's WLANPlus chipset as the enabling technology for our next-generation, high-end STBs, because it is the industry's first 802.11n-draft compliant silicon able to support such demanding applications," said Song Ki Min, director, digital media research center, at Daewoo.
