Ceramic capacitors from AVX

AVX Corp. has expanded its family of proprietary high k, intergranular barrier layer dielectric systems. Similar to the company's Maxi and Maxi+ product offerings, the new single-layer ceramic capacitor series, designated Ultra Maxi, features X7R characteristics and a dielectric constant of 60,000.

The new Ultra Maxi series is available in voltage ratings of 6.3-, 16- and 25Vdc. The company said the required board mounting area is reduced by approximately two-thirds on average compared to an equivalent capacitance value in the Maxi+ series. The new product series offers a suitable solution for broadband bypass and optical networking applications where high performance and a small footprint are the primary considerations.

The device has a maximum dissipation factor of 2.5 percent at 1kHz and a temperature coefficient of 15 percent from -55C to 125C. Terminations (Au over Ti/W) provide an efficient wire bonding surface and are compatible with conductive epoxy or Au/Sn eutectic solder attach. These Ultra Maxi SLC's are is also RoHS-compliant and Pb-free.
