LG.Philips LCD disclosed late last week that it will build its third overseas LCD module factory in Guangzhou, China.

To prepare for the construction, LG.Philips recently inaugurated a subsidiary in the Chinese city last week, an LG.Philips spokeswoman said. However, further details on the new LCD module plant, including the amount of the investment and production schemes, were not disclosed.

Once completed, the Guangzhou plant will be LG.Philips' second module facility in China. Its module factory in Nanjing began production in 2003, and was ramped up the following year to a monthly capacity of 1 million units.

In June, LG.Philips issued a downbeat updated Q2 forecast and said it is reducing production to address inventory concerns. The company had also said that it was looking "to better balance short term supply with demand."
