Photovoltaic cell supplier Suntech Power Holdings Co. Ltd has established a U.S. subsidiary to be based in Delaware. This new subsidiary, called Suntech America Inc., will be headed by Roger Efird as president and as a member on the board of directors.

"Suntech is a fast-growing player in the solar market, and we are especially interested in the long-term potential of the U.S market for residential and commercial applications," said Dr. Zhengrong Shi, chairman and chief executive of Suntech, in a statement.

"Our immediate objectives include the continuation of a regular, dependable supply of solar modules to our existing customers, the establishment of a warehouse facility on the west coast, and pursuing new relationships with U.S. customers," said Efird.

Jiangsu-based Suntech recently signed a supply agreement with MEMC Electronic Materials Inc. for solar grade silicon wafers.
