Vishay's light sensing development kit

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has released a new addition to its ambient light sensors portfolio. The company said its new light sensing development kit allows engineers to measure and display ambient illumination, tune the sensor, define software program responses, and complete a hardware layout as it promises to reduce prototype development time and cost.

The built-to-order development kit includes adapter and sensor boards, ADC and I2C interface. The adapter converts I2C output from the sensor board to RS-232 interface for direct PC connection. Via direct PC connection, engineers can use this feature to define system responses to various lighting conditions.

The product promises to reduce prototype development time and cost by integrating the sensor board to the controller. The kit has MS Windows-based software displaying ambient illumination in formats like lux, microamps, voltage, decimal and hexadecimal.

The software has two sampling modes for tuning the sensors: continuous sampling at user-defined intervals and single- or trigger-mode at single-data readings.

The RoHS compliant-ambient light sensors are said to lower power use in consumer electronics applications by controlling keypad backlights and adjusting LCD brightness.

The development kit is available with a lead time of four weeks.
