National Instruments (NI) released a new general-purpose digitizer/oscilloscope, extending its digitizer offering to 2GSps by providing a 1GSps real-time sampling rate on two simultaneous channels or 2GSps on one channel.

For repetitive signals, engineers can use the PXI-5152's equivalent-time sampling mode to sample at up to 20GSps. According to the press release, engineers can readily use the new module as a full-featured oscilloscope for time-domain measurements right out of the box. Unlike with traditional oscilloscopes, NI added, engineers can configure the same PXI-5152 digitizer through software to perform custom measurements in many application areas such as semiconductor chip characterization, ultrasonic nondestructive test, biomedical and communications.

The module features 300MHz bandwidth and ranges from 100mV to 10V with 50 and 1M software-selectable input impedance. With deep onboard memory up to 512Mbytes, this new product can make long acquisitions or store a large number of records in the multirecord acquisition mode. In addition, engineers can synchronize multiple PXI-5152 modules using NI's T-Clock technology for building systems with up to 34 channels in a single PXI chassis with sampling at 1GSps and synchronized to picosecond-level accuracy among the modules.
