Modules based on IEEE-802.15.4 target industrial apps

Zigbee subsystem supplier Cirronet's wireless OEM product line now includes two low-cost OEM modules based on the IEEE-802.15.4 standard. Cirronet's $22 LPR2400 (running 1mW of RF power), and its $36 LPR2400ER (an extended range module running with 65mW) operate in the 2.4GHz band.

Slated for wireless communications in industrial and factory applications, both modules include Cirronet Networking Layer to ease integration and add support for networks through a simple-to-use command language.

Cirronet Networking Layer supports addressable acknowledged point-to-multipoint networks of up to 60 remote radios, as well as transparent point-to-point or point-to-multipoint communications and peer-to-peer communications.

These latest modules tout very low power for battery operation. They also auto-configure in point-to-point links. The LPR2400 modules measure 0.8-by-1.2inches. The LPR2400ER module measures 0.8-by-1.6inches. Both are FCC certified and ETSI certified.

Developer's kits are also available for both modules, starting at less than $200.

Cirronet is also provider of modules supporting the Zigbee standard based on the IEEE_802.15.4 spec. Zigbee provides for mesh networking, whereas 802.15.4 delivers wireless networking via peer-to-peer and star topologies.
