MagnaChip Semiconductor Ltd has announced the launch of the MC2EP7202, a high-performance passive matrix organic LED (PMOLED) designed for the main displays of mobile phones and MP3 players.

The new device supports QQVGA (128x160) resolution and 262,144 colors. With minimum power consumption, according to the company, it supports system (68/80 series MPU), RGB and VSYNC parallel interface as well as SPI. The product is targeted for various panel size products and for partial display and 50X4 icon function, allowing it to be used in slim and wide-angle mobile phones.

"MagnaChip's EP7202 product addresses a weakness of PMOLED products by providing a cross-talk-free solution, which supports gamma and icon functions and is currently not available in the market," said Davis Mok, marketing VP in MagnaChip's Display Solutions Division. "This is an exciting opportunity for MagnaChip as PMOLED technology is expected to be applied to QQVGA (128X160) mobile phones beginning Q4 2006. MagnaChip's solution will provide unique value by offering a highly integrated PMOLED solution for use in many leading mobile phone and MP3 player displays."

The EP7202 is currently available with planned mass production in Q4 2006. The EP7202 solution will be produced using 0.18m process technology.
