RF Monolithics Inc. (RFM) has announced its newest patented productsthe third generation Virtual Wire radios. RFM said the new 3G Virtual Wire radios are based on its patented ultralow-power, amplifier-sequenced hybrid (ASH) radio architecture and offer integrated RF IC with quartz SAW filtering and frequency control components in a single hybrid. In addition, these devices promise high data rates for data, control and digitized voice transmissions, and a wide operating temperature range for industrial and outdoor applications.

RFM President and CEO David Kirk said, "The 3G Virtual Wire radios are ideal for automated meter reading (AMR), networked sensor applications, medical, security systems, active RFID tags, wireless entry/access and wireless monitoring and control. We are committed to providing short-range radio products and solutions with features designed to support new market opportunities such as these."

The new 3G Virtual Wire offerings are complementary products and meant to cover a broad variety of applications in the short-range radio space. The product packages and pin-out designs are compatible with the company's 2G Virtual Wire radios and enable existing 2G customers a smooth transition path to 3G technology.

RFM's new 3G Virtual Wire products are currently sampling and will be available for volume production starting next month.
