Vishay's WSLT2512 current sensing resistor

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has announced a new high-temperature 1W surface-mount Power Metal Strip resistor, said to be the industry's first current sensing resistor in the 2512 case size to operate in the -65C to 275C temperature range. The WSLT2512 resistor features a 10-milliohm to 500-milliohm resistance value range, a tight tolerance down to 0.5 percent and TCR values down to 75ppm/C.

The temperature range of the new device allows it to replace larger current sensing resistors with a similar 275C maximum operating temperature. The device can be used for current sensing and pulse applications in harsh, high-temperature environments without sacrificing power rating or electrical performance, the company said. The range of systems into which the WLST2512 will be designed includes automotive engine controls, safety controls, multimedia electronics, climate controls and anti-lock brakes, as well as industrial oil/gas well drilling including down hole test/measurement equipment.

Manufactured using proprietary techniques, the new device features all-welded construction with a solid metal nickel-chrome alloy resistive element. The resistor offers low inductance values, a frequency response to 50MHz and low thermal EMF of less than 3?V/C.

Samples and production quantities of the new resistor are already available, with a lead time of four to six weeks for larger orders.
