Designed for single-cell portable products, the new boost converter from Advanced Analogic Technologies (AnalogicTech) delivers 100mA at 24V for OLEDs, LCDs and CCDs.

According to Adolfo Garcia, product line director at AnalogicTech, the AAT1232 is tailor-made for cost-sensitive applications since it "combines output voltage programming with high output-current drive in a space-efficient packaging." The AAT1232 operates at 2MHz; thus external inductors and capacitors are small, significantly reducing overall PCB footprint, added AnalogicTech.

The designer can set output voltage dynamically by activing one of two reference levels using the device's SEL input. Optionally, the AAT1232 offers dynamic output voltage programming over a 16-step range using the company's single-wire Simple Serial Control interface, a lower cost and simpler alternative to traditional I2C-based addressing/programming methods.

The chip's "True Load Disconnect" feature will isolate the load from the power sources when the EN/SET input is pulled low, and so there is virtually no leakage current. The AAT1232 maintains 80 percent efficiency across a wide range of load currents down to 1mA. The converter includes soft-start, cycle-by-cycle current limit, and short-circuit protection.

The AAT1232, available in Pb-free, 16-pin, 3-by-4 mm TDFN and 12-pin TSOPJW packages, is priced at $1.05 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
