The market for architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) applications software in the Asia-Pacific region continued to grow in 2005, reported market research firm Gartner Dataquest, with total software and software maintenance revenue increasing by more than 21 percent to $112.9 million.

The year 2005 marked the fifth consecutive year of AEC revenue growth in the region, following a market dip in 2000, Dataquest said. The firm forecasts that the trend toward upward AEC growth in the Asia-Pacific region will continue for the next few years.

Last year, the Asia-Pacific region accounted for nearly 8 percent of worldwide AEC revenue, according to Dataquest. The Asia-Pacific region is the fourth largest AEC market, trailing Europe, North America and Japan, the firm said.

Autodesk Inc. held 38 percent market share in the Asia-Pacific region in 2005. All told, the top five AEC vendors captured a total of 92 percent market share in the region last year, the firm added.

China replaced South Korea as the largest single AEC market in the Asia-Pacific region in 2005, Dataquest said. South Korea had been the largest single market in the region since 1992.
