'Smallest' LAN module touts lowest power consumption

Sharp's DC2J1DZ120 LAN module

Sharp Corp. recently announced a LAN module for portable devices, said to be the smallest in its class and with the lowest electricity consumption.

According to the company, the size of the new DC2J1DZ120 LAN module8-by-7.6-by-1.3mmis half the size of conventional modules. It consumes 0.3W on standby, 654mW when sending data and 165mW when receiving data.

The device uses Sharp's proprietary semiconductor material, with added silicon-germanium alloy, together with an embedded baseband IC power-management unit, jointly developed with Nanoradio AB.

Sampling of the DC2J1DZ120 will start in late September with sample price set at $171.
