FPC connector from SMK

SMK has announced the development of a 0.4mm-spaced FPC connector. As design of portable equipment such as mobile phones and DSCs gets smaller, thinner and more functional, FPC connectors for internal connection also need to be downsized and provide higher density mountability.

SMK said its new FPC connector, the CFPB130-0101F, has a height of only 0.75mm when mounted and a depth of 3.6mm, making this connector the industry's shortest. Use of separate upper and lower contact design, the company's patent-pending innovation, makes both sides of the FPC usable.

The upper surface of the connector has a shield cover that enhances connector strength and further stabilizing contact reliability. Combined use with a shielded FPC makes counternoise features more effective. The N-ZIF structure of contacts used result in easier FPC insertion. Mechanisms that prevent unintentional disengagement and incomplete FPC insertion are likewise provided.

With an operating temperature range -40C to 85C, the RoHS-compliant device has a contact resistance of 30 milliohms maximum and an insulation resistance of 100 megaohms minimum at 100Vdc.

The new FPC connector is currently available at 85 cents per unit for orders of 30 pieces.
