SanDisk's new 2Gbyte MP3 player priced below $100

SanDisk Corp. recently unveiled two new models in its Sansa c200 series The c200 series is offered in two capacities1Gbyte and 2Gbytewhich sell for $79.99 and $99.99, respectively.

The memory can be expanded with the addition of an optional SanDisk microSD card, which currently is available in capacities of from 256Mbytes to 2Gbytes. For example, a user can transform a 2Gbyte player into a 4Gbyte player by adding a 2Gbyte microSD card, explained the company.

The c200 supports WMA, MP3 and the protected WMA DRM format. Offered on the Sansa c200 are an FM tuner/recorder with presets for 20 channels, a voice recorder and a user-replaceable lithium-ion battery that provides up to 15 hours of continuous playback.

The SanDisk c200 is Microsoft Windows PlaysForSure compatible, meaning that it will support subscription music from on-line music providers such as Rhapsody, Napster and Yahoo! Music.

The SanDisk c200 is expected to be available from retailers in the United States and Europe in October, with other regions following later.

Last month, SanDisk unveiled what it touts as the world's largest capacity, flash-based MP3 player. The flash-memory product company also cut the prices on its older MP3 player models.
