Forward power solution reduces system cost

System General Corp. has announced a complete forward power solution for desktop power supplies and PC servers. The major circuit of this solution consists of a PFC/PWM combo control chip, a flyback PWM control chip and a four-channel supervisor IC. The company said the simple design structure of the solution improves conversion efficiency of power systems and reduces power system cost.

According to System General, the new solution integrates various protection functions and high technology patents. Its performance complies with the EU harmonic wave directive. With a power factor of over 98 percent, the solution promises a high power conversion efficiency of over 80 percent and under 1W standby power consumption.

"System General has long devoted itself to developing innovative power technology with low power-consumption and high efficiency," said Gary Lin, senior VP of SG. "To help customers develop new products and meet the future market trends, we provide the ideal power solution that simplify power system design circuits and reduce external component costs, as well as enhance the price-to-performance ratio of power supplies."

The company introduced three of its power ICs in this solution: SG6931/2, SG6858 and SG6516.

SG6931/2 is a highly-integrated PFC/PWM combo-IC for forward topology of a power supply/adaptor designed to provide current transfer operations in Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM) for high output power systems rated above 150W. Its has a built-in green-mode function and protection features including highly integrated over temperature protection (OTP), over voltage protection (OVP), under voltage protection (UVP), over power protection (OPP), short circuit protection (SCP) and brown-out protection. Its patent amplifier technology also improves output dynamic response. Moreover, SG6931/2 allow maximum PWM cycle adjustment.

SG6858 is a low-watt fly-back PWM IC that realizes super-low standby power. Its built-in synchronized slope compensation greatly improves system stability. Furthermore, the device features constant power output limits, programmable PWM frequency and cycle-by-cycle current limiting, among others.

SG6516 is a highly integrated supervisor IC that has overall supervising and protecting functions for power systems. The solution provides two 12V OVP, UVP and OCP functions. It also features highly precise VRI & VPGI, built-in 20ms OCP timing delay protection, 300ms power good signal protection and PSON controlling switch signals.
